Yes it is, but that does not change the fact that probably half of our members wander here first as google is pointing them.

As a FYI this seems to have brltty installed in it. This causes problems with ShuttleXpress and also the waveshare RS485 USB adapters.
To remove brltty
sudo apt-get remove brltty
This was from the ISO link above and run as a fresh install.

There must be a bug in the Debian Live installer as we tell it to suspress Britty installation so that instruction must be ignored.

Linux (most distros) will install "brltty" whenever they detect a keyboard with added functionality, like extra buttons or fingerprint reader or smart card reader, etc.
It will not install when a plain keyboard is used.

Just for my own information. they don't make a linuxcnc iso that starts with the Debian Mate version with linuxcnc built in.
I would have to install Debian Bookworm with the Mate desktop then download linuxcnc afterwards. Correct?

You can install the official ISO and then install MATE desktop environment, it is pretty much the same minuscule hassle in both cases.

There are 2 ways to do this. The easiest way might be to use tasksel to select what desktop you want. The other way would be to find the mate package via a debian package search
packages.debian.org/index
I think its
sudo apt install mate-desktop-environment
You should be able to select the desktop you want to use from your logon screen with your cursor in the password, a gear appears at bottom right.

I used XFCE because that is what Linuxcnc has used forever. You can use Mate.Just for my own information. they don't make a linuxcnc iso that starts with the Debian Mate version with linuxcnc built in.
