That is exactly what i needed, does not mention minor versions just Debian 12.
Thank you very much.
Can you also try
cat /etc/os-release
Should return more helpful info, hopefully.

no problem I hope it helps fix the problem. I now have a second drive with the problem code loaded on it
so I can just switch them when needs be.

I went back to my PC here that I installed Linuxcnc 2.9.2 on to test the ISO after I built it and found the same fault.
It seems Debian does not like upgrading the RT Kernel from 6.1.0-16 to 6.1.0.17
I rebooted and repeated the sudo apt upgrade and had the same fault but I noticed that Debian did not complain about other 21 dependencies this time round. So those updates must have been made! The kernel is typically updated right at the end from memory.
It seems the upgrade proceeds but just the RT kernel is not updated. I think it can be safely ignored.
The only things Debian will roll out to Bookworm is security updates and maybe bug fixes to Firefox etc so its not a deal breaker.
I think it can be ignored.
Its not like we are building the RT kernel; like we do for the PI so this is clearly a Debian issue.
