The issue is not the Linux version, but that you have set you host interface
IP address to the wrong value. It cannot be set to the same address as the
Ethernet FPGA card. This is something setup by hand with net manager or
editing the interfaces file (see the hm2_eth manual page: man hm2_eth)
If the FPGA card is set for 192.168.1.121, I would suggest setting the host
IP address to 192.168.1.100/24. If the FPGA card is set for 10.10.10.10, I would
suggest setting the host IP address to 10.10.10.100/24
