Update: Well, back home after testing...No Joy!...We are still having the same issue with the torch quickly moving away from the workpiece after lowering to he specified cut height (0.06')...Tommylight mentioned that the torch voltage is set too high...

We are following the settings set forth in the Hypertherm Powermax 45 manual, which, for this material thickness (3/16"), at 45 amps and 118 volts...

Using Sheetcam to generate the gcode and setting the prescribed voltage therein, when starting the cutting process that voltage (118V) is imported into LCNC thanks to JT's M68 command...Thinking that simply lowering the input voltage in the gcode, I edited the gcode to set voltage to 70 volts and then down to 50 volts without success...The torch still runs away from the workpiece...

I still get only two signals on the panel, one for vel-status and one for arc-ok...The volts-under and volts-high are not responding at all...

I am at a loss to know where to look and what to do...

unless the thc.pid.volts is correct all bets are off
Thats the thing that should have been verified first

Hi guys, just wondering where you have got the thc-pid component from?

My brother is KB8WMC and I am who he is helping. We do not know how to test thc.pid.volts. Does this have to do using the a 9v battery. Where do we hook up the 9v battery and what will we look for when we do this. We have looked the forum over and can not find details and instruction on doing this.
We have been using the hal meter to obtain data. Does my plasma machine pm45 50-1 voltage divider factor into the offsets or scaling or is that already factored in?
Can someone point us to instructions to test the thc.pid.volts? any help will be appreciated.

You need to become familiar with Halscope
linuxcnc.org/docs/html/hal/tutorial.html#_halscope

Then you will be able to plot arc voltage and other parameters.
