Plasma Torch, first try and lots of questions

Dear all,
wiring continues and I love the mic connectors for motors only since trembling hands make it easier

I was reading the 7i76e manual and yes a bit unclear, but thanks to the provided wiring and connection diagrams it is not that foggy anymore.
Never the less I would like to get certainty. The digital output is it 24v or 0.... Or on 5V level?

I bought a 24V relais for torch start then I would need to get a 5v one.

Unfortunately pnp No induction sensors too....

I really appreciate the help provided...

. The port in the document starts with 0..and the wiring diagram with 1....!!

The digital outputs are whatever the VField voltage is, so if you have 24V field voltage, you need 24V relay.
Please add a diode in parallel to the relay.

Thank you...
Wondering about me since I can't somehow find that in the original manual.

My bad! Ports are right numbered... 0 seems to refer to first input output number definition.

Dear all,
Happy holidays!
My mains power circuits are working... Now it's on to connect the 7i76e which I always push ahead since I fear to break it.

I am using dm556t and on the Mesa the motor has 5v+ and ground as well.
I don't know where to connect these? Or these are not in use... Or for enable?

Do I need limit switches?

I still haven't installed linuxcnc now but is it right I can use pnp NO home switches with 24v as well?

Thanks again!

Here is a good connection sheet forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachme...hluss_2017-01-02.pdf

7i76e DM556T
STEP0- PUL-
STEP0+ PUL+
DIR0- DIR-
DIR0+ DIR+
+5V and Gnd not required in this case.
If ENA+ and ENA- are left disconnected then the drive will be enabled.

Do I need limit switches?

You do not have to have limit switches, the soft limits in LinuxCNC are very reliable. You can always install them later if you feel that you need them.

Yes, see the connection sheet.

Was struggling with finding my 7i76e....nema17 DM542 working nema23 dm556t only noise not turning with microstepping doing funny things... ..

Reason: the power supplies.. When connected power of drivers and 7i76e when power supplies were on already NO PROBLEM!
just leaving this hint here when somebody has same problems.

Changed the setup.. So all power is on separated switch...
I smoked my 7i76e today was maybe not a good idea... To turn motors on first then 7i76e....
So there will be no messages from me for the time being.....

In case somebody can repair that thing... The chip close to power in burned off....

Until next

That has always been my main fear with working with electrical boards.

I have destroyed a few arduinos because I did not have spacers under the boards and I put them down on something metal bridging contacts.

You could get in contact with Mesa and I am sure they will be able to repair. But in the scheme of things anything Mesa sells is not expensive really. Boards for my Yaskawa Motoman robots cost in the $1000's for a replacement.

You will damage a 7I76e if you switch the DC field power...

We have also had a high failure rate of our last lot of cards
so we will repair/replace the card under warranty, but make sure you
do not switch the DC field power (switch the AC side of the supply)

We expect to have a more rugged ( more tolerant of transients from switching DC side)
7I76e version out in 1-2 months
