OK, although i had a HP 8300 Ultra small form factor with an add on graphic card made by AMD.
Then boot in safe mode, if that works, and check the chipset, chances are it is some type of Intel 915 and as such might be blacklisted in Linux.

I got punk'd
I unplugged the monitor, waited 10s till backlight is off and plugged it back in and now I can see the installer

OK, that may be something wrong with DPMS or display power management when changing resolution.
