Hi.

I'm new in this forum and everything related with CNC is new for me.
I have Bridgeport textron Series 1 CNC Mill, unfortunately it doesn't have any electronics only aftermarket primopal steppers.
I wish that I can use it as mechanical macine and have all CNC features.
Most of the time I'm doing simple operations what is a lot faster in "mechanical mode" to carry out.
Definitely I need 4-axes.
All this CNC stuff is new for me, I have million questions.
I don't know where to start.

I don't have any decent pictures but it's better than nothing.
Bought this machine because it had mechanical damage turning transport because of that price was really good.
Right now I'm dealing with mechanical damage (cracked ball quill and crooked spindle shaft) what isn't big deal for me but that CNC stuff isn't for me but I'm learning.

I'm planning to use gecko G213V drives.
But everythin else I have no clue.

I would not use Gecko, no matter how much i liked them at one point in time, i accidentally bumped into some Lam Technologies drives and never looked back as from my experience they are by far the best drives for the money, especially when i can find the discounted in Germany.
www.mechapro.de/shop/Schrittmotor-Steuer...ehaeuse:::22_49.html
DS series are the cheapest and that is what i use as most of the time the DS1044 is 100 and DS1076 is 150 Euro
Keep in mind, you need the programmer at the bottom of that page, and setting them to 4A on a 4A china motor will render the motor crispy, they spec the stuff with real current, not peaks and stuff.
I tried to kill one, on purpose, it did not die! :(

If those China motor are not good I can bought new ones, those motors came with mill, I have those 3 but I need 4-axes.
Those motors suits 1:1 replacement for factory ones (bolt pattern and shaft size).
I don't how powerful they are but this cnc table is really heavy.

I want to build this cnc only once, it means correctly from the start.

China motors will do just fine, but when using LAM Techologies drives, set the drive to 75% of the rated motor power

With DS1076 I need 1371 board and programmer but do I need something for microstep?

Definitely I whant to use:
E-stop
6 limit switches
Touch probe and plate
And pendant (custom made, if there isn't suitable) for manual milling.

Do not know what 1371 is but you do not need it, just the programming dongle for 28 euro.
For motion control i use Mesa boards always at www.mesanet.com or www.mesaus.com or in Europe www.eusurplus.com but it is down for maintanance for now.
A Mesa 7i96 should do just fine, or if you can stretch a bit, Mesa 7i76E or 7i95.

How accurately I have to follow instructions in DPP_DS_MANUAL under section  "4.4.5 chassis setting" ? I understand everything except shielding part in this drawing. I use definitely metal box but when I put everywhere metal plate to shield different components how I can vent it...
