I think if you realy need 2 cylinders, than you need control their preasure.
You can control them with servo valve but I think it's very expensive thing.
Much cheaper is to use electro magnetic valve ewith control from linear encoder in such way:
If one side moves faster then another, then close valve until the other catches up.
If you will not control position you can easily skew the plane.
If there is impossible to skew the plane, than you can only reach end position.

if we'd go that route, simple linear scales would be easier and readily available option.

<slaps forehead> Yes, of course.

Hi guys, I've been thinking about a folding bench for a long time. That's why I looked at different variants and found the Safan Darley E-Brake very interesting. This works with a belt to the pulley principle, maybe something like this can be realized more easily for an open-source project. In this article it is described very well, but it is in german, you can translate it with google and here is the link from the manufacturer. Sorry for my English but I had to get in touch because I find the project very interesting.

I'm in the process of working on a CNC Pressbrake retrofit.
I started a new post:
pressbrake setup

A question. Am I right here?

I think there there are two option for setting the tool height
1) we use linear encoders along with ram.

2) we can use ballscrews on both sides which trigger endstops. When we need different height l, setter moves up or down.

Foot pedal triggers the ram down until it hits endstop and then returns up.

My pressbrake has one linear encoder on one side. The ram is moved by a round tortion tube that is connected in the middle to a cylinder that is controlled with a hydraulic directional servo valve. It does not have down switches or stops.
