Thanks. I have tried that and every other combination of , recently used, all applications, accessories but nothing points to Linuxcnc. Only can load as previously described.
It is no big deal to wipe my drive and start afresh but just wonder why and if it will resolve.

I have no idea as to why this happened but you can easily create your own starter icon on the desktop that executes a terminal command to start linuxcnc.

You mean you can't find the INI and HAL files or the configuration folder?

Well the total reinstall of Mint has resolved the matter as the "CNC" menu has reappeared with all the options. A mystery why.

It was nearly easy instal. Even as Im very much Linux newbie.
I made fresh instal from 2.8.0 Linuxcnc and Debian Wheezy.
Got linuxcnc running with my old Ini and Hal files, but now I have these problems.

- when starting Linuxcnc: hm2/hm2_5i25.0: Smart serial port 0: Dolt not cleared from previous servo thread.servo thread propably too fast.

File Name: optimumjyrsin.hal

- also my servos are making sounds, like belts would be cracking. Hal file has previous PID tuning adjustments done, even though I went to pnconfig and loose all my settings. i know, custom.hal next time. This is my main problem.

- on pnconfig comes error about missing hosmot2

Wanted to make this update, becouse I have been fighting with Vistacnc pendant for days, its disconnecting usb Very often. This is still to be tested.

Looks like you did not install a real time kernel.
