linuxcnc-2.8.0-pi4.img - no USB on raspberry pi 4 - 8GB & 2GB

So, I found that the image for the raspberry pi on linuxcnc.org/downloads/ has an issue with no USB connectivity on the 8GB Pi 4 boards.

The image boot through to the desktop, but USB keyboard and mouse do not function. And because it is a loaded image there is no chance to set it up for wifi and remote connection to enable access.

I made a comment here; forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...4-tutorial?start=140

And someone else noticed the same issue; forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...ial?start=110#179461

But I thought it better to pull out to a separate thread.

So no issues with plain raspbian [2020-08-20-raspios-buster-armhf.img], just linuxcnc image [linuxcnc-2.8.0-pi4.img]

I also get the following errors with linuxcnc that do not come up with raspbian;

kvm [1]: Error, CPU 0 not supportd!
xhci_hcd 0000:01:00.0: can't setup: -110
xhci_hcd 0000:01:00.0: init 0000:01:00.0 fail, -110

My first post here, hi all. I ran into the same issue. I followed the instructions at linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html (7.3. Installing on Raspbian 10) for every Kernel of the 4.19.XX series and always after replacing with the patched realtime Kernel linux-image-4.19.71-rt24-v7l+ after reboot I still could log in via SSH, but anything connected via UBS (in my case the touch function of a touchscreen, and also mouse and keyboard) did not work anymore. I also tried the manual replacement of the Kernel with a precompiled realtime version from gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/uspace/rpi4-rt.html - same problem.

Hi

I did a side by side comparison of a Pi4 with 4GB and 8GB. I modified the image in order to get ssh from the first boot. Both have a mouse connected and no screen.
The dmesg shows that on the 8GB the xHCI could not get activated (see line 142/142. Later this device is mentioned as the USB Host controller.

This problem appears only with the linuxcnc image.

Board version RPi4 4GB:
Hardware : BCM2835
Revision : c03111
Serial : 10000000ed832f24
Model : Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.1

Board version RPi4 8GB:
Hardware : BCM2835
Revision : d03114
Serial : 1000000005046c7f
Model : Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.4

The same devices booting Raspberry Pi OS / Debian Buster:

I found the following at - wiki.debian.org/RaspberryPi4

- USB doesn't work up to kernel 5.7 for the hardware variant of PI4 with 8GB RAM
- This issue has a fix in kernel 5.8 (currently in experimental): lkml.org/lkml/2020/5/5/998

But I'm not clear if the build image here is running debian

My 8GB powers up all the way through to the desktop, just fails to start USB during boot (see errors logged above), so no keyboard / mouse.

Hi all,

Having the same issue with my pi4 8GB. No USB after boot.

What's the current workaround? I'm very new to LinuxCNC so this also my first install.

Kind regards,
Brett.
