I'm in Australia...may be we could co ordinate a time so that I'm on time when you are we might get you going a bit quicker....I'm off work with a crook back (back injury) and I'm not at the mercy of any timetables.

Just to be sure what PC are you using the office or workshop PC ?

Can you get wifi when running the from live Linuxcnc USB\CD ?

One thing you can try, when grub loads press e to edit, then on the line that loads the kernel add these options, at the end of the line is ok, net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0

1. Workshop
2. No
3. Yes, but how to get this permanent?

If not added first line is
[FAILED] Failed to start Raise network interfaces

If added first line takes a while to process and WiFi is functional.

Cheers

Sweet...Aussie slang for good

The file you want to edit is:
/etc/default/grub

The line to edit, as superuser (root), starts with:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

Add the options you typed in when booting;

Mine looks like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0"

Then run:
sudo update-grub

Next time you reboot the options should be there.

To check the command line linux booted with you can run this will show you the options passed to the kernel & boot process:
cat /proc/cmdline

Just be aware your Ethernet port will now be eth0 if you just have the one port: ie it reverts back to the older naming scheme.

Debian grub wiki page:
wiki.debian.org/Grub

Hopefully after this it should be all ok.......The TP-LINK adapter should work with this setup as well as I recall we established the driver was loaded for that dongle as well.
