November 2021. 2 years makes an enomous difference. During that time there have been massive improvement in  UEFI support by the linux kernel.
Back then it was probably kernel 5.15 or so, Debian Bookworm was released at kernel 6.1 and now its just been announced that the 6.6 kernel will be the next long term release. The mainline is on 6.7.
So any custom kernels might be based on 6.6.

I have 2 Bookworm office PC's running under UEFI and its been seamless. Some additional steps are required if you build any kernel modules. eg DKMS drivers.

PC specifics are:

HP EliteDesk G2 800 mini 65W
I5-6500 3.2 GHz
BIOS N21 Ver,-2.19 06/01/16

Ran for LinuxCNC 18 hours without issue but my test
SSD drive died  when I did a power cycle to read the BIOS
info so I probably wont do a longer test until I get a
new drive.

Seems like this one uses a laptop processor, hence the latency issues.
I did not check, it's just from experience.

Well at least we found the cause of the varying results, I bet the it throttles like crazy going in and out of various power states in order to maintain that 35W TDP.

Sort of funny actually, because that's the power supply I got with
my ebay 800 G2, and it will not run the PC, you get a beep error and
no bootup. I had to borrow a 135W supply from another HP Elite
to do the test...

And mine is a 65W, which explains why I didn't keep seeing EFR's once I sorted out the 7i96s 5v power supply.

I am starting my linuxcnc experience on Debian Trixie - I just did the todays upgrade  - and I have a kernel 6.7.12-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.7.12-1 (2024-04-24) x86_64 GNU/Linux. My current issue - is that I have lost apt access to the linuxcnc-uspace, linuxcnc-uspace-dev and mesaflash  packages.   These packages may have been held back from release but I am not in a position to know.  I have a different system - running on Trixie 6.5.0-5-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.6.131  2023-11-29  x86_64 Gnu Linux - with these packages loaded.
So there is a 5 month difference in time -  What I would like to know - Should I continue to persist in attempting to use Trixie as the base level of my systems - or is it wiser to go back to Debian 12.      I have two months calendar time before I have the CNC system together.   Thanks for looking into this.

yes, follow the steps on the 2.9 docs getting linuxxnx at about heading 7, download  and run the script
The version in Bookworm was about 18 months old so getting linuxcnc from our web site is a much better idea!
