MiniMonster's bigger meaner brother progress.
This machine already exists, but I need to modify it and repair some flood damaged parts. *finally* all the parts seem to have come my way to get it back going.
I am going to use the sanyo denki servo sets I originally bought for my brother machine. They run on either analogue or step and direction. I already have a mesa 7i77 for analogue use.
Does anyone have any opinions on whether I should stick with that, or move it to step and direction. There are a number of benifits to going with analogue, but my last experience tuning analogue servos on linuxcnc went poorly. These are very different drives this time though on a very different machine.
Drives are sanyo RS1, and the motors are sanyo P5 with 2000 line encoders.

A silly diversion while I wait for things.
I saw how an arm atc mechanism works, and thought "how hard can it be?"
Turns out... quite hard. haha. I found it basically impossible to designs a cam path in fusion. It might be doable somehow,. but it could not think of a way. So, instead I dumped it into my animation software (3dsmax) and animated the motion as I would like it to be. I then basically drove the rollers into the drum wheel using a voxel based volume tool and it ate out the paths (not unlike a cam simulator). Neat trick, but its not super precision because the voxels are only 0.1mm. I think it might still be worth doing some 1/2 scale resin test prints to see just how much play is tolerable in the system. The end goal would be to make most of the mechanism in SLS nylon.

So, what's an easy way to add IO to my 7i96s?
ATC, probe, laser tool setter etc are gonna need a dozen or so more IO than I have.
I can piggyback the 7i77, but I kinda want to leave that for use on the larger machine. I did have a 7i84(?) but it seems to have gotten lost or packed away when I moved from the shop and I can't find it.
Is there an alternate simple cheap option?

7i84 would be the best solution.
A cheap BOB is also an option if the 26 pin header is free.

Found it. yay. haha.
So that solves that.
On to the next problem... configuring it
