Thinking about this, I suspect that the reason that you see this and most others, (ncluding myself) do not is that you are using a real serail port, and most installations are using a USB to Modbus converter dongle.
And there is no flow control on those.

Hello
I received this USB rs485 and it's not working, with or without the 120 ohms resistor on the VFD side. hy_vfd says 8 char received but values are obviously corrupted 0x0E 0x0F 0xE6... and CRC is KO.
For the Rs232 converter, I made a little DB9-M_DB9_F dongle and replicated inside what I had on my Rs232 breakout box (Dtr Rts tied to GND).
It's working fine on my dual boot test PC but not on my dedicated Cnc PC (Motherboard GA-D525TUD)
This confirms what I wrote before : "The more I work on this, the less I understand"

So the USB device also works on the test PC (in Linux with hy_vfd?) and not with the controller PC?
I wonder if the controller PC has a chassis ground connection problem?

No : the USB doesn't work on both PC.
The Rs232 works only on the test PC.
All tests are with hy_vfd.

If the USB doesn't work with either PC, then perhaps it is something simple, like it not having the address in /dev that you think it has?

Did you add yourself to the "dialout" group?
If you start LinuxCNC from the terminal, do you get access denied or permission denied on the serial port?

You mean /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/ttyUSB1 ?
If the selected device doesn't exist, hy_vfd will exit right after launched.
