That would eliminate the computer issues, so please do that.I could try a different PC and just move the config over.

At Last success. I had another pc set up with 2.9 so transferred the config to it and would you believe it. It worked 12mtr/min no prob. With good smooth motor control. With the Brix pc the motors were running dog rough (No not Tom's dog).
I then took the SSD out of the Brix pc and tested it in the Dell that worked good also.
So what do I look for in the Brix that would cause this?

Does it have a Bios? Did you already disable every useless feature in it?

I'll try and get some photos of the BIOS settings I use before then.
If you think the Brix has a convoluted BIOS, you should see the BIOS in the Baytrail Chipset J1900 and J1850's I have here now. They won't even boot until you spend half an hour tweaking the settings!
But the good thing is they are quite OK with latency with the inbuilt Wifi and the one that turned up this week has 2 LAN ports and 2 RS232 serial ports. So everything you need for a Mesa card and Hypertherm RS485 control.

I suspect there are some BIOS settings that need fixing in your Brix. I feel a bit bad 'cos you bought it on my recommendation. But all is not lost, you can check my BIOS settings when you come to Australia
Don't feel bad Rod I am happy that I bought it.
I am going to have another go in the morning with the bios.
Now I have good control and homing fine I need to get onto the next stage with PlasmaC I am not sure now where the link is for it.
I have the THC wired to the plasma terminals via 1 meg r's just need a cat5 for the other end of the THC to the 7i96.
Do it keep the breakaway switch input away from the floating Z switch (would that be the probe)? I will be using scratch start..
Just rambling so betting get some reading done.

I leave that ON always as i do not want to open the cabinet and push the power button, so i just turn on the machine power and the PC starts automagically !

I've never turned a PC off for about 25 years.... Occasionally fan would go in a power supply back in the old days.. But fanless is cool!
