Thanks, Rodw, looks great!
I really need a bigger faster 3d printer, my Elegoo Neptune Max gantry type printer doesn't always fit my projects... I'm inspired by an FLSUN S1 that I watched printing one day. It runs delta kinematics, and it runs so fast the print head is just a blur. Pretty much sounds like a clothes washer in fast spin cycle when it's printing.

I'm playing around with dimensions a bit. In my 3d sketch, the linear rails are 2000mm long and will be attached to the steel frame (not shown). The round build plate at the bottom is 750mm diameter. The delta legs carrying the print head will likely be aluminum round tube.

It will be enclosed and heated, build plate will also be heated. The three delta motors will be up on top outside the heated enclosure, driving the carriages up and down via gear belts.

The door will be something like polycarbonate. Two thirds of the sides will be sheet metal heavy enough so it doesn't sound like a tin can, that steel shell will probably be the main frame. One third of the sides will be the clear door spanning most of the distance between two rails.

I do not yet have any mass measurements for calculating speeds with. I will be happy if I can make it go faster than my Elegoo printer. I don't expect to win any races with that FLSUN S1, that thing looked like its delta legs might be carbon fiber.

Well if you think about it, the delta winch drum is really the same as a pinion drive in relation to motor analysis,
So no cutting forces, 2 kg axis weight (actually that's way wrong as the print head has 3 wires supporting it) but it did not make much difference.
I have no real idea here but if you want speed, grab a 48 volt 10 amp power supply (for 3 motors) a 2:1 reduction gearbox and a 60mm diameter winch drum, and you are good for 37,000 m/min!

The limiting factor here was the voltage and this needed 46 volts. if they had a drive good for 72-80 volts like rtelligent you might crack 40 m/min  revised Report attached. Some early runs did not get past 12 m/min until I started tweakimg drums and gearing.

I'll be very interested to see how you go as I thought seriously about making one to but had no experence. Beckhoff have some interesting modi;e to read the cool stuff printers need!

37 m/min! Wow! I was starting to worry these motors will look tiny on such a big printer maybe I should look at bigger motors haha.
I will plan on using these motors with 2:1 reduction and 60mm dia. drum. 3 axis plus I can use the 4th output from this Lichuan driver for the small extruder motor.

My Elegoo Neptune 3 Max has a max rated speed of 6.4 m/min and they recommend printing at 3.6 m/min. The guy running the fast little FLSUN printer will probably share with me what the slicer settings look like for such high speed printing. The FLSUN S1 does 72 m/min. but I'm not interested in trying to match that any time soon. That printer has even less build volume than my elegoo.

The extruder - I will probably start with the spare head I think I got for my other printer, but I read recently about a new printer model, can't recall what it was called. It used high frequency induction heat to heat the nozzle, allowing the heater in the print head to heat up and cool off in seconds because the mass of the heater was reduced to pretty much just the nozzle. I might try that later.

I hope I'm not hijacking your thread here, maybe I should start a separate thread in hardware or builds related category when I start building this 3d printer.

This would be the right place for it:

There  are some pretty cool 5 way print heads I've seen recently. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007430584580.html
