Pcw,

I think snuggly has made some fault's in his wiring. The mesa will read 24 volt's in, in all circumstances on all input channels.
Proma has no examples of using 24v on common, so user's don't think about that core relais function.
Did you read my last comment? How about that?

I want to help snuggly with a fresh parport application. Then he could cut next week.

Snuggly, grap a parport. We start with one parport, and we are going cut plasma very soon.

pin 2 => step x
pin 3 =>dir x
pin 4 =>step y
pin 5 =>dir y
pin 6 =>step z
pin 7 =>dir z
pin 10 => emergency in
pin 11 => torch down proma
pin 12 => arc oke proma
pin 13 => torch up proma
pin 15 => probe
pin 17 => torch on

I hope you understand the parport settings. This is all you have to connect.
The grotius plasma gui is the next thing to install. First do the wiring.

There is no normal circumstance where you would wire the Proma common to the 7I96 input common

If you are using active low inputs you would wire the 7I96 input common to +12 or +24V
and connect the 7i96 inputs to the low side (common ) of the power source to activate
In this circumstance, the Proma common would be the power supply common

If you are using active high inputs you would wire the 7I96 input common to power supply common
and connect the 7I96 inputs to the power supply high side (+12 or +24V) to activate.
In this circumstance you would wire the Proma common to +12/+24V

Sorry, for adding to the confusion. So if Snuggly has connected the Proma common his power supply ground (low side) as he stated, then he should have +12V/+24V attached to the 7i96 input common and be using active low switching.

I'm not sure how Grbl works but when I played with an Arduino and steppers, it was all active high so he could have an error here...

@Rod,

Let him start with parport and leave this disqussion behind. He must start with something easy.
After that he can build his second machine. After that, maybe he go's his way or stay with us.

I don't think it would be helpful for Snuggly to change systems now. He is very close to getting a result. One of his problems has been he's followed too many "prophets" and tried several approaches leading up to this point. Either there is a wiring fault as alluded here today or the Hal stuff is wrong so that will be up to Tommy to solve. I did see that Tommy said he had one other thing to sort out. But lets make sure the wiring is correct first.

Rodw,

He is very close to getting a result

In my opinion he is far away from getting result.

But i think he must start easy. Let him start with parport. After that i learn him how to use ethercat.
He could be the best seller of plasma in the world.

Current wiring
TB3:
8 = z float
9 = Arc-OK
10 = Down
11 = Up
12 = Common --> -24v
13 = Torch Relay -
14 = Torch Relay +
Proma common --> PSU ground

@Grotius: Lol where's the faith? I'm concerned that the parport will be negatively affected by the HF start torch. I have a cheap chinese board hanging out... but I do feel as though we're very close to having a working machine.

the +24v for my switches is coming straight off the PSU and into my board. I realize now that this was a mistake, easily remedied.

@Rodw: the GRBL was just a cheap fast way to get a controller, it has no bearing on how this machine was wired. Thanks for recognizing the struggle. I came in here super green and started working on a very difficult machine for even experienced linuxcnc users (or so I've been told). I think we are getting close as well!

I hope you are lucky basterd.

Connect 12 to proma common

--- disconnect psu ground ---- !!!!!

I'm concerned that the parport will be negatively affected by the HF start torch
You must not use a HF start torch at all. That's number 1 most imporant plasma issue.
Listen to me. And you will build your machine's as lovely as i do.

Lol where's the faith?
I think where you start, and where you are now, you are an example of how to accieve a goal in life.
For me it looks like : you never give up, how bad your config card is..... without experience...

Maybe for you a name that sound's like jack.... maybe it's a name close to you.

Then you are up to the next level. Wasted money, and be aware of that.
