The plasma itself is still only 40A though? So the machine torch @ 80A only runs at 40A with this unit?

I've just sent WeldersWarehouse a couple of questions on it too! :)

C.

This is the torch they supplied me with parkertorchology.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/SCMP80R.pdf

Did you use a THC-10 Clive? Or the 5V?

Also what size NEMA steppers did you use? I'm looking at something like this...

eBay NEMA23 3Nm

...but it feels like to 3Nm ones would be overkill?

Ta,

I used a thc-10

I would not buy a any kind of kit . I would buy low induction motors and, drives that will accept AC and use a toroidal transformer for the PS.

What are you using for motion is. Rack or belts etc

Thanks Clive,

Would you suggest AC voltage input drives for PSU noise suppresion or current carrying capacity?

Looking at a few alternatives for stepper motors at the moment. Where did you get yours from? I notice your Z axis is much larger than the X stepper.

I'm thinking belts at the moment.

No. My Z motor is smaller it is a nema 23 the other motors are nema 34 (which is overkill) that were given to me with the rack and pinions for the motors then I made the a sort of gear box to reduce them to 3:1

I have built a few machines now all with toroidals it make it simple as you don't need caps or rectifiers.

I don't really think NEMA 34's are overkill if they are carefully selected and matched to the gantry mass, pinion size and gear box reduction. Therein lies the difficulty as doing all of that to put the motor in the zone is not an easy task. Sometimes the added rotational inertia from the larger NEMA34's makes all the difference.

Also just a suggestion, make sure the motors you order have the desired shaft diameter. On NEMA 23 motors they can vary (5mm, 6.35mm, 10mm, for example).

Got the first deliveries! Now waiting for the steel, rails, fixings, motors, drives and a bit of time!

Treated myself to a new bandsaw too. Small but well made and capable. :)

Update to follow soon, I hope.

Ta all so far!

I have the Cross air 40 as well. It works well. I had to use a reed switch for the arc OK
