Hi Guys, I'm pretty new here and just getting started with LinuxCNC, I've been retro fitting a rf31 mill and have a NVEM V2 I was using with Mach3 on an old laptop. the laptop started to play up and lost all my motor settings so i decided to ditch it all and buy a Raspberry Pi 5, load it with LinuxCNC and set it up solely for this machine.
I recently got my STlink all setup and now I need to confirm which bin file I need to download from GitHub? is it the Remora-NVEM-STM32-1.0.0.bin file in the Remora-NVEM/firmware directory or the Remora-NVEM.bin file in the Remora-NVEM/Remora-NVEM-STM32/Firmware directory?
I'm going off the Scott 3D Youtube videos, but the GitHub info seems to be a bit out of date. Is any of the info in those videos still up to date or should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks

just use the one here github.com/scottalford75/Remora-NVEM/tree/main/Firmware
use only the files in that repo for linuxcnc installation as well, the remora-nv one
everything in the videos about this stm board will still be relevant im sure
these stm ethernet boards have more users than i would have guessed

Thanks, much appreciated!
Yeah, the board was a pretty attractive option when I bought about 6 years ago.

I'm still having issues with interference with the encoder. But it works at very low speed. I'm trying to get the feed per rev working but I can't. anyone spot any issues with the halshows pins in the video? Spindle is working fine and displayed on the axis scale. It looks like there is no spindle rev ,

Hey Murphy, i cant really see whats happening in the video but i think I can tell
github.com/cakeslob/RRW_LAB/blob/inc/Lin...c/remora_encoder.hal
github.com/cakeslob/RRW_LAB/blob/inc/Lin...c/remora_spindle.hal
check out these 2 hal files, specifically the encoder one, or just try them out. the encoder one has a lowpass filter to smooth out the rpm signal

Thanks cakeslob, I copied everything from yours last time, the only thing I don't have is the low pass, I'll give it a shot thanks

yeah the lowpass if what gives a stable(ish) velocity output from the encoder

I'm going to buy a genuine omron encoder. I think a lot of my problems are with these cheap knock offs. All of the ones I have opened don't have an encoder wheel inside. Iv no idea how it's able to get the signal accurately. See pic attached of one of them.
So how does the Z index pin work with the ec500. I have A and B working and connected to the WHA and WHB of the MPG bypassing the opticouplers. If I want to attach the Z from the encoder what pin does this connect to? Will I have to bypass another opticoupler?
