I spent Sunday installing Mint 21 on the system. Using Tommylight's instructions, everything went fine. It worked so well, I tried it with MX21, and it worked also.
Latency looks ok, no problems with Sim.
Having the extra drivers for Linux helps a lot.

Not really, you can't install linuxcnc-dev. I also made a try with Debian Bookworm, there runs halcompile ;)

I found a solution, git Linuxcnc and then "./configure --with-python=python3 --with-boost-python=boost_python39 --enable-non-distributable=yes" configure it ;)

I can't seem to figure out how to remove the generic kernal, remove one another one shows up...

JT, use synaptic, slect what you want to move, it will select another to install so say ok but remember what exactly it is istalling, then just uncheck that offending kernel and continue removal.

I tried that several times and synaptic keeps installing another different generic kernel... it's really strange.

I'm giving Debian 11.4 a whirl to see what it does... it at least recognized my motherboard NIC so that's better than 11.0.
