Open halshow and do a watch on that pin as well if you could.

Ran another one, same settings. Arc voltage displayed seems to center at about 125v, variation is about +/- 3v. Again the Z appears to be reacting how I would think it should based on my observations.

I just moved the torch over to the most warped area on the sheet. Now I'm going the opposite direction, from high to low and it pushed the torch somewhat quickly into the material. It's like it's trying to adjust but the speed is way to high.

That last plot gives the correct voltage but it is inverted?

I don't know why the previous one was a crazy voltage nor do I know why this on is inverted.

Thinking.....

I just unpaused it (it had tripped the float and paused and went up), and now the torch moved a short distance then went up. Possesed.

I would always wager it's something I've messed up :)

Can you check the polarity of the wires between the THCAD and the 7i96.

Sure. Just checked it against the Mesa docs and it's correct (7i96 TB7 to THCAD FO+, TB8 to THCAD FO-, TB9 to THCAD GND, TB12 to THCAD +5V).
