apparently doesn't play the same as the 7i76e board and I don't know why yet. I hope to figure it out soon. stay tuned.

Though that was months ago, and I haven't even plugged the machine in yet to see if it works with the original controller.

The 7I76 should behave exactly the same as a 7I76E, the field I/O sectionThe 6i25 and 7i76 board apparently doesn't play the
same as the 7i76e board and I don't know why yet.

with the MPG inputs uses the same firmware on both cards.
It may be that you do not have mode 2 selected on the 7I76's
field I/O section

the other thing I need to try is I am pretty sure I set the 7i76 board to use 5 volt power from the 6i25. I think it was page 3 of rodw's space ship build were he mentioned he read a post by you that said the ground had to be tied together if one was using a separate field power and logic power supply. I unfortunately don't know exactly what post he was referring to.
edit: I removed information that could potentially damage a 7i76 board . I.E. connecting 24 volts power to TB3 pins 22 and 23.
DO NOT DO THAT !

Yeh, The MPG's won't work if you don't do that if you run seperate power supplies.I think it was page 3 of rodw's space ship build were he mentioned he read a post by you that said the ground had to be tied together if one was using a separate field power and logic power supply. I unfortunately don't know exactly what post he was referring to.
I think its just a matter of connecting the GND as Norbert shows in his connection sheet.

That's just for the spindle encoder. The MPG encoder inputs on field inputs 16,17,18,19 are single ended only.I read in the 7i76 manual that jumpers W4, W5, and W6 set the encoder input mode either differential or single ended I am not sure if that's just for the spindle encoder or for all encoders, mode 2 included.
Also since the field I/O section of the 7I76 (and 7I76E) is totally isolated from the logic side, as rodw mentioned
you must have a common ground for the 5V MPG supply and the 24V supply or the MPG will not work.
