Good call guys. I turned off EIST, turbo and C state reporting in Bios, and it has now been running a couple of Youtube channels and the latency test for about an hour without freezing up.

Would their still be an advatage to do intel_idle.max_cstate=1 to the kernel command line (with grub)? I don't knwohow to do that yet, so it'll take me a bit of searching to find out.

I really appreciate yor help here.

30 SqM hut or carport as US calls it, but no cars will enter there, just my two newly built plasma cutters.

Car are a creatures of open spaces. You risk giving them claustophobia if enclosed. Far better for all to use such spaces for machines and hobbies I say.

My cars are always outside despite having plenty of covered spaces. :)
They can handle that and it is nice to have frozen fingers in Winter from cleaning ice and snow from it.

thanks to Andy, I now have the XFCE interface reset to the default. Not sure why a Mint download ended up as Stretch with XFCE, but that doesnt matter.

I enabled Autologin according to this how to...
steemit.com/software/@kskarthik/how-to-e...uto-login-in-lightdm

I need to check that bios battery again, as the bios had reset again after 2 days. I had checked it was at 3V with a multimeter before I installed it, and there should be almost no current draw on it. But now the POS is locking up again, even with the CPU magic deactivated in BIOS.

I am trying to upgrade from 2.7 from 2.8, while trying to get a feel for when the freeze occurs.
